I make installations, often site-specific, using projections, photography and sculpture. The pieces I make can be placed in the world as we know it, but at second glance, they appear to be artificial. Recognizable elements, I bring together with seemingly impossible and unusual ideas.
I explore ways in which video or film projections and photography can be sculpted with; how these media can take on a new form, which enables me to create an environment for the viewer to step into. My works hold memories of past times. Through the juxtaposition of different realities - the old and the new, nature and metropolis, fairytale and archive - I like to create my own worlds. Every object, person, view, location or tree that appears in my works has a history that is known to me. These different histories influence me and my works significantly.
The past inspires me. Landscapes and buildings tell stories, stories are fairytales, fairytales are collections of secrets, dreams and histories. I like to pull things apart. Art pieces are like small doors that open into another world.
After my studies at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam, where I studied at the department 'voorheen audio visueel' (fine art and new media), I did a Master in Fine Art at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London. I now live and work in Amsterdam again.
